Way way back in the 1970’s, MEGO had basically every toy license possible.  DC Comics. Marvel Comics. Star Trek. Shit, there were even C.H.I.P.s figures!

Then Star Wars happened, everyone realized how much money could be made in action figures, and the licenses got all sorts of split.

In a perfect world, one company would still have this type of universal license, and it would be LEGO. Don’t agree?  I think these two awesome illustrations from Ulises Farinas should speak otherwise.  The above piece, titled “Lego My Marvel”, shows a Marvel Universe in LEGO style.  The piece below, titled “RISE!” is a mini-figure styled version of Blackest Night, the super rad DC v. Zombies crossover currently all over the comics.

Either way, I’ve been left wanting these mini figures.  Sure, you can say that MegaBlocks has the Marvel license, and Art Asylum did MiniMates for both DC and Marvel..but god damnit, they ain’t LEGO!

I’m a grown adult, and if these sets were release for real, I’d buy them in a heartbeat.  Kids need this.

Props to the illustration style as well. Mr. Farinas reminds me of Geoff Darrow’s hyper-detailed work, and considering he’s doing “simple” mini figures in this art, that’s a mighty hard task. Props to you, and for making my childhood dream come alive.
