In addition to being the design team behind the layout of the first 3 volumes of the awesome comics anthology Popgun, the fine folks (folk?) at Fonografiks have done a stunning series of minimalist comic covers, in the style of old school dime-store novellas.
These covers are stunning, and really only underline how much the comics world is missing by not aiming for “understated” for most comics work. But maybe I’m wrong.  Either way, you can view the whole series of covers at their DeviantArt page.
