In the mainstream world of Marvel and DC comics, one of the best books hitting the racks these days has to be Matt Fraction’s run on Invincible Iron Man.

Launched in 2008 as the Iron Man series for the new comic fans to jump on, it’s been an absolute joy to read.  The book touches on the continuity of the Marvel U without being a bear to follow, and with the stunning art of Salvadore Larocca, the comic has an intense, widescreen feeling - making it feel as if these comics could be adapted directly to screen.

This week, issue #25 hit the shelves, and in addition to being a great starting point for the new Iron Man 2 fans, as it sets the stage for the next big arc of the series, Tony Stark unveils his new Iron Man armor, seen above.

I first reported back in January that this sleeker armor would be appearing in issue 25, but to celebrate the armor’s official debut, CBR has an interview with it’s designer,  Ryan Meinerding.

The name may not ring a bell, but Meinerding’s been a concept artist on dozens of Hollywood productions, including both Iron Man films, and the great interview doesn’t just give you his insights into the creation, it shows you them, chock full of breakdowns of each revision of the armor.

All and all, while I was iffy on it last January, I do dig the new look, and we can thank Ryan for making it happen.  What do you think of Shellheads new look?
