Last Friday, we got our first look at the US remake of Let the Right One in, titled Let Me In, as helmed by Cloverfield's Matt Reeves.

Well, I’m guessing the backlash train has already struck Mr. Reeves pretty hard, as just a few days later, he is already giving an exclusive interview (plus an exclusive still, seen above) to the LA Times - asking the dedicated fans of the Swedish cult-fave to just give him a chance.

The interview goes into his reverence for the project, and in one section in particular, tells me that he might just get it after all!

"One of the fun things about doing genre is you can kind of smuggle in real stuff, so it kind of charges the metaphor. It's a giant monster coming down the street, but it's really about anxiety. This is a vampire movie, but really it's about the pain of adolescence. And that kind of thing is really exciting to me."
Granted, the rapid fire timing of this article worries me a bit (it seems dead set on fanning ANY flames which came up over the weekend), but maybe, just maybe, Matt Reeves is the guy to make Let the Right One in more palatable for American audiences.  Sure, like anyone else, I'd prefer that the original would just be seen by more eyeballs, but at the end of the day, it's a great story.  Here's just hoping it's executed well.
