One of my favorite comics of all time is Jeff Smith’s stunning opus, Bone.

I remember reading about it in the pages of Wizard back in the early 90s, and it was my first exposure to the world of indie comics as a wee lad.  I collected every issue fervently, bought the one volume tome (which I frequently lend out to new fans), and I’m currently wrapping up my collection of the new beautifully colored volumes printed by Scholastic.  Simply put, I love it.

Way back when, it was scheduled to be a hand-drawn animated film by Nickelodeon, but the rights reverted after many starts and stops.  According to Smith himself, the movie is back in production, but despite his own hopes and dreams, will be a CG animated film.

Sure, I’m still excited about the eventuality of a feature length Bone adventure, but the child in me still wishes it were animated like a Disney classic.

That’s where talented flash animator Andrew Kaiko comes in.

Using audio from the Bone PC game from Telltale Games, he animated the above short clip, which gives fans (and probably Jeff himself) the closest we’ll come to a hand drawn flick.

Check it out, it’s really beautifully done. Consider my inner child absolutely joyful.
