In case my lack of overall excitement towards modern shooters wasn’t apparent in my coverage of the Microsoft Press Conference, I’m starting to feel like all the FPS and shooting games hitting the consoles is starting to feel quite a bit samey.

Dark brown/gray graphics, get from point A to point B. Shoot shoot shoot. Shoot your friends. Shoot shoot shoot. Boring.

And lo, there came the trailer for Bulletstorm.

Developed by Epic Games alongside People Can Fly, this looks to be the game that takes modern FPS’s out of the humdrum, stale status quo they’ve made for themselves.

The game seems to have a silly sense of humor, over the top action, and holy crap, look at those GRAPHICS! Stylized and full of color, it’s like they realized how brilliant an HD image can be!

…and it doesn’t hurt that the trailer is scored with a classic Nine Inch Nails tune.

Bulletstorm hits PS3 and 360 on February 22nd, 2011.
