For the gaming populace, last night was all about the Kinect, Microsoft's new motion controller system for the XBox 360.

USA Today leaked the first list of games and details; there was a super secret bizarre sounding demonstration last night for the gaming press; and in just about a half hour, Microsoft plans to unveil the Kinect to the world as part of their big E3 conference.

We saw an early version of the “controller” (camera?) last year at E3 when it was unveiled as Project Natal, but we now have a real, true, glossy press image of the thing above.

What do you guys think? Too embarassing for your TV stand? Nice and sexy? Still not sold on it?

Either way, Microsoft seems to be hedging their bets on this new motion format as their way to take the top spot in gaming away from Nintendo, but we’ll see if it’s too little too late…and when the hell is this thing hitting stores, anyway? And for how much? Hopefully these questions and more will be handled by MS in just about 30 minutes.

EDIT: 1:16pm - Here’s a first look video from ABCNews of the controller-free controller, and if XBox.com is true (why wouldn’t it be?), we should be seeing the Kinect in November of this year.  I guess it’s going to be an arm flailing Christmas for gamers!
