Sometimes, the combination of all the right ingredients does not a good meal make.

And it seems, if this trailer is any indication, the same can be said for creative people and films.

When the Green Hornet movie was first announced, my eyes rolled.  Set as a superhero film to be written/directed by Kevin Smith, my brain recalled the cheesy TV show,  and pretty much figured it a wash.

Then, major changes struck the project…

The lead role and writing duties? Taken by Seth Rogen.

The director? Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Be Kind Rewind).

The main villain? Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds).

The lead female interest? Cameron Diaz. …ok, so it’s not completely awesome, but I’ll deal.

And then the rumors came that the studio disliked the film. My thoughts at the time were that of thinking the heads at Sony were just thrown off by the film being created by an innovative director in Gondry.

Then…the movie got pushed into January, which is never good.

And today, the trailer was released.

What a bland looking movie. Not good, not bad, but BLAND.  Where is the Gondry feel? Where is Rogen’s charisma? More so - why does a trailer designed to make a film look good, actively bore me?

Either this is a poorly put together trailer…or Sony has good reason for pushing Green Hornet into January 2011.

Guess we’ll find out.
