I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised by this news, but I somewhat am, and I’m quite bothered.

Like 95% of the major action movies hitting theaters this year, Marvel Studios has announced that Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger will be converted in post to 3D.

sigh

Haven’t we learned from The Last Airbender, Alice In Wonderland and Clash of the Titans?! Post converted 3D makes 3D look like shit. The only movies to make 3D TRULY work are those which are SHOT in 3D (Avatar) or completely CG films, where the models have depth ALREADY DESIGNED making conversion easy and seem as if it WERE shot in 3D.

Sure, the rest of the article goes into explaining how at San Diego Comic Con they’ll be taking the time to convince fans like myself that the post-conversion process will be handled with white gloves, a nicer touch compared to what we’ve seen before, but let’s be honest…if you take a dump in your stew, extra simmering isn’t going to improve it.

The other newsworthy bit is the new still from Thor, which gives us our first glimpses at Loki and Odin (who looks wayyyy to excited to be there), but this 3D news bums me out so much that I can’t even get excited over it.

Yes, I know, 2D versions will be available, but 3D technology can be GREAT when done properly. Why does no one want to handle it properly?
