I’m pretty sure that Guillermo Del Toro is recession proof.

No sooner than he quits his gig as director of The Hobbit, he signs on to direct his dream project At the Mountains of Madness, and now he’s got a huge gig with Dreamworks Animation, including writing and directing a project of his own - Trollhunters!

Based on a young-adult novella he will be publishing, Trollhunters is the first of many projects for Del Toro under the Dreamworks Animation wing.  He already has been said to have some input on this November’s Megamind, and will serve as executive producer for both Kung Fu Panda 2 and Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots.

This continues Dreamworks Animation’s unique period of growth, which seems to have started with 2008’s Kung Fu Panda and continued with this year’s How to Train a Dragon.  I almost wonder if so many critics (including myself) constantly describing Dreamworks as a semi-perminent #2 behind Pixar on the animation front made them step up and reach out to unique talents such as Del Toro, but whatever the case, I’m excited to see the end results of this collaboration.

Whatever gets more Guillermo films in my life makes me happy, so thanks a bunch, Dreamworks!
