One of the many big first looks showcased at New York Comic Con this past weekend was the first reveal of details for the forthcoming Green Lantern animated series, coming to Cartoon Network.

Following the push for the movie, this series has some major power backing it, serving as a collaboration between DC animated universe head Bruce Timm and Avatar: The Last Airbender director Giancarlo Volpe, which is sure to already insure the drool of fanboys.  What makes this interesting is this is the first CG series by Timm, with the whole show being 3D modeled.

Currently set for a 26 episode run (with I’m sure more to come) Green Lantern: The Animated Series is more a space buddy cop series, featuring Earth Green Lantern Hal Jordan teaming up alongside his trainer and fellow GL Kilowog.  The series will take place in the deepest, darkest regions of space, with the Red Lanterns serving as the “big bad” for the series, and Sinestro due to appear down the line.

The only bummer so far? While a preview run will launch in late 2011, we won’t be seeing the series proper on the air until 2012.

All the time to perfect it, I say!
