Will KUNG FU PANDA 2 Defy The Odds Again?
Releasing on May 27th, 2011, I find myself strangely looking forward to this sequel. Released in 2008, Kung Fu Panda was a true surprise of a great flick. Arguably the first really great film from Dreamworks Animation since the original Shrek, it ushered in the new era of great films from the typically maligned studio.
Lightning struck a second time with the absolutely fantastic How To Train Your Dragon, and from all indications, Megamind is also quite the pleasant surprise of a film. But will a sequel break the trend? Considering the unusual talent behind Kung Fu Panda 2, you at least have a shot of the movie being at worst a noble attempt, at best, a grand success.
What do I mean by unusual talent? Kung Fu Panda 2 serves as the first Dreamworks Animation production properly produced by Guillermo Del Toro, and in a really shocking turn, the script is written by Charlie Kaufman, best known as the screenwriter of Being John Malkovich and Adaptation.
No matter what, this will be a flick I keep my eyes on next Summer. I am by far and large a dyed in the wool Pixar fan, but I’m certainly game for there being two great animation studios.
