One of the most fascinating projects to almost, but ultimately not, hit the silver screen to me is Tim Burton’s ill fated Superman Lives.

Set to be an adaptation of the now classic Death and Rebirth of Superman story, the film took many forms, ultimately dying in 1998, with Nicolas Cage attached at the time to play Superman.

About once a year or so, more images or long lost pre-production information hits the web, and I’m always drawn to it.  The ideas are equally terrible, yet gutsy.

This movie was undoubtedly far far removed from the classic ideas of Superman, yet Warner Bros put up hundreds of millions of dollars for this gamble. They ultimately lost, but not as much as they could have.

Never the less, this latest “leak” of sorts is thanks to special effects designer Steve Johnson, who via his Facebook, and recreated in the gallery below, gives us a look at what I assume was the “regeneration suit”, used by Superman when he comes back to life.

It’s a chrome and LED lit eyesore, but it’s amazing to think how it would’ve been received by film audiences, had the movie been completed.

Here’s hoping that Zach Snyder doesn’t have one of these suits up his sleeve for his forthcoming Superman reboot.
