So now that the massive undertaking that was Tron Legacy has come and gone (with wildly varying opinions as to how it was), Disney is continuing with their plans to build a massive franchise out of everyone’s favorite movie set in a computer.

Since we’ve already had the giant, modern day reboot, the next step is simple - an animated series!

Titled Tron Uprising, the first look at the series is set for the DVD/Blu-Ray set for Tron Legacy, and it found its way onto The GridYouTube today.

Looks pretty rad, right? I agree, and I even dig the not quite Daft Punk score.

While the video isn’t much more than lightcycle racing, there is an overall plot to the series.

Wikipedia sez it’s this…

Beck, a young program who becomes the unlikely leader of a revolution inside the computer world of The Grid. His mission is to free his home and friends from the reign of the villainous Clu 2 and his henchman General Tesler. Beck will be trained by Tron — the greatest warrior the Grid has ever known. Tron will not only teach Beck the fighting skills he needs to challenge this brutal military occupation, but will be a guide and mentor to him as he grows beyond his youthful, impulsive nature into a courageous, powerful leader. Destined to become the new protector of the system, Beck adopts Tron’s persona and becomes the archenemy of Tesler and his oppressive forces.
Tron Uprising is set with an amazing voicecast, including Elijah Wood, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens, Nate Corddry, Lance Henriksen and Bruce Boxleitner reprising his role as Tron.  It will hit Disney XD with a 10 part mini series this fall, and premiere as a cartoon proper in Summer 2012.
