As I’ve gone on record here quite a few times, Summer 2008’s Kung Fu Panda was a major surprise.

Featuring beautiful animation, a decent script and serving as a decent homage to classic kung-fu films, albeit one with talking animals, it was way better than it had any need to be, and arguably started Dreamworks Animation’s renaissance (Shrek Forever After aside).

Well, the first true trailer for Kung Fu Panda 2 hit the web this weekend, and it looks to be just as great as the first.  Sure, the script might not be so great (the humor in the trailer is a bit eye rolling), but the skill on hand with lighting and color, not to mention the amazing scale of the set pieces, is certainly awe, if not interest, inspiring.

Click play above to watch the trailer. I recommend bumping it to HD if your comp supports it, as it really shows how great the animation looks.

Kung Fu Panda 2 hits theaters on May 26th, 2011.
