Lets make it very clear - I’m not a big sports guy.  In fact, the only real sport I enjoy is hockey (GO CAPS!).

However, I do always seem to enjoy a good sports movie, especially those that go behind the games, giving you an idea of what it is to be in a professional team, or in the case of this film - Moneyball, running one.

Moneyball is based on a book by Michael Lewis, and is about the real life tale of the Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane (played here by Brad Pitt), who decides to take the unique advice of  a young man (played by Jonah Hill) to build a team based purely on statistics.

This movie was originally supposed to be directed by Steven Soderbergh, but it was pushed back, and the screenplay had a pass by Aaron Sorkin.  After a year of delays, Bennett Miller (Capote) took over the reigns and the film is finally due this fall.

The trailer seems to evoke The Bad News Bears, The Social Network and Friday Night Lights all at once, and despite being bored to tears by baseball, I’m pretty sure I’m going to make it out for opening weekend.  Check the trailer out yourself by clicking play above.

Moneyball hits theaters on September 23, 2011.
