I know that many of my friends will see the phrase “Tim Burton” and immediately start to roll their eyes.

Honestly, I don’t blame them, with the exception of Big Fish, it’s been a while since Burton has done something truly great (although I must admit I REALLY enjoyed the visuals of his Alice in Wonderland remake). Next October will bring the feature length remake of his first film project, a surreal short called Frankenweenie, a tale of a beloved wiener dog brought back to life by the young boy who loved him.

This time the film will be a full stop motion feature, and Entertainment Weekly (and now, I) received the first images.

I really like the design of the film, as it seems to be in line with Burton’s traditionally quirky/dark style. I reserve my full opinion for when the trailer hits, but so far, so good.

The voice cast features Burton staples in Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara and Martin Landau, and the movie hits theaters on October 5th, 2012.
