As I am on record, I’m a big fan of the Judd Apatow style of comedy - the mixture of the outrageous and the realistic makes for a really great film, and a great date night flick, as the movies tend to work wonderful with both male and female audiences.  Plus, you can say that with Forgetting Sarah Marshall and The Muppets, the team of Nicholas Stoller and Jason Segel are two for two.

That said, we now have a trailer for their third collaboration, April’s release of The Five Year Engagement.  Placing Segel and Emily Blunt as the couple with the titular lengthy engagement, it sounds like a combination worth the time.  And then you watch the trailer…

…maybe I’m being cynical, but doesn’t this feel like a lazy mashup of Bridesmaids and I Love You, Man?  Like, really, what from this trailer stands out as truly unique or interesting?  Besides Alison Brie doing a British accent, of course.

I’d like to think this an example of terrible marketing, but then again, when it comes to Hollywood, they can’t all be winners.

We’ll find out for sure on April 27th, 2012 when The Five Year Engagement hits theaters.
