Bless me my fellow nerds, for I have sinned.

It has taken me 27 years of my existence to finally sit down and watch non-TV edit versions of the Alien franchise. This past fall, thanks to an astounding deal on Amazon.co.uk, I ended up with a copy of the blu-ray Alien Anthology. Last week, I finally watched the proper cut of Alien and absolutely loved every single second of it.  The immaculate restoration on the disc certainly helped, but really, what a damn good film.  That said, my timing couldn’t be better, as this summer brings us Prometheus.

Prometheus is Ridley Scott’s long awaited return to the world of science fiction.  Is it a prequel to Alien? Apparently.  But not in the way you’d expect.  But what we do know is this - the film has an amazing cast, including Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, and Logan Marshall-Green.  It’s written by Lost mastermind Damon Lindelof. And now we know it has an absolutely stunning first poster.

Breathe it in, fellow nerds, I think this is going to be an iconic image for some time. The mystery of what lurks in the background draws you right in, and as a proper convert to the Alien films, and a Ridley Scott fan (Blade Runner is one of my favorite movies EVER after all), I cannot wait to see what lies in store.

Prometheus hits theaters June 8th, 2012.
