I’ve heard of this project for a few years now, I might have even written about it here, but documentarian Morgan Spurlock has decided to turn his always quirkly lens toward a subject very near and dear to me, San Diego Comic Con.

Titled Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope, the flick (produced by Stan Lee and Josh Whedon) takes a look at the massive celebration of comics and cult culture that is Comic Con.  As opposed to looking at it from a strictly historical approach,  the flick aims to look at the convention from a more mythological approach, seeing how it effects fans, attendees and overall geek culture.

The first trailer was just released, and I’ve embedded it above.  It looks pretty darn good, I just wish we could move beyond the whole Star Wars thing - not the best choice of title, in my opinion.

Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope hits limited release on April 6th 2012.
