Take this with a grain of salt, but…

Rumor has it that this August, to promote the DVD/Blu-Ray release of The Avengers, Marvel Studios/Paramount/Disney will re-release the film with the 35-minutes cut reinstated into the film.  This will push the movie over the three hour mark, making it even more of a superhero epic.

Given that August is kind of a quiet month for the theatrical releases, I could see where a re-release would fit right in, and give the box office an extra push.

These 35 minutes are already going to be available on the disc, but it would be interesting to see them in the film proper, whether on the big screen or as an alternate option for viewing at home.

We’ll see if this actually pans out.
