I can’t write this article without first admitting for disclosure’s sake that I know Adam WarRock.  I’m not going to say that he and I are close friends, but he’s a good dude. And twice now, I’ve had the pleasure of performing alongside him at Super Art Fight events.

What’s more important though, and why I’m writing this is, he’s living his dream.

Many of us across the web dream of making our wildest dreams come true, and for the most part, those dreams involve serving no other masters than yourself.  To be able to put a roof over your head and provide for yourself through nothing but your own pursuits.  No bosses. No suit and tie (unless you want it). Making it happen by yourself and for yourself.

Two years ago today, Mr. WarRock looked at his life as a lawyer and realized he was miserable. He enjoyed his hobby of creating rap music, and he wanted to make it his full time gig.  Who hasn’t had that dream? I know I have - I’d love to blog like this for you all the time, I’d love to host Super Art Fight events around the world, all year ‘round.  But unlike people like me, who go “…maybe one day”. He decided that the day had arrived. He quit his job, and started making the rap game work for him full time.  And now, two years later, he’s touring all across this country, releasing amazing music, and he’s living his dreams.

But there was a key concept to all of it - he’s making his dreams happen in his own terms. He’s writing raps about what he wants - some would call it “nerdcore”, and maybe it is, but there’s an earnest love for the things he waxes poetic about which is truer than any other artist who claims that genre.  And he’s not aiming to be all about the “hot topics”.  I’m sure that he could just look at the world of nerd, drop some Doctor Who and My Little Pony songs and see the cash come in. But it’d be fleeting, because it would be fake.

So, it’s with that same level of being true to himself and being honest, that only one day a year he asks for donations - and that day is today.

The Adam WarRock 2012 Donation Drive is going on right now, and it’s been a nice mix of things. He’s released his first music video today (embedded at the top of this post), and if you donate to him (which you should - I did), you can get yourself two albums (one exclusive to the donation drive), a sweet comic and a digital print.

I know, there are all sorts of Kickstarters and Indie Gogos out there grabbing your attention right now, but I’ve always been taught to put your money where your mouth is - and I’ve put forth mine.
