But, to Warner Bros. disappointment, it’s not going to be in a Justice League film. Yet?

A project I’ve been keeping a quiet eye on since its announcement, LEGO: The Piece of Resistance is a 3D computer animated adventure featuring my favorite building toy.  What makes the project unique is that, unlike many movies being built around bizarre licensed properties (looking at you, Battleship!), this flick is being directed by the team of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, alongside Robot Chicken’s Chris McKay.

You may not know the names of Lord and Miller, but trust me, you’ll want to. Breaking in as creators of the amazing and hilarious MTV toon Clone High, they took two licensed properties which should have been awful movies (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street) and created funny, smart and surreal films that hold up beyond a novelty level.

In the case of LEGO: The Piece of Resistance, we’re looking at a movie about an average LEGO man who becomes a “MasterBuilder”, and somehow gets involved in a plot to save the universe.  The lead will be voiced by Parks & Recreation’s Chris Pratt (proving that Lord and Miller are looking to build on a proven comedic talent, similar to Bill Hader in Cloudy), and in what made me write this post, this will feature the first theatrical team-up of Superman and Batman!

The Man of Steel and the Dark Knight will be voiced by Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street) and Will Arnett (Arrested Development) respectively, and show a bit of self referential humor, as it seems even the licensed LEGO sets will play a part in the film.  Will Harry Potter make an appearance too? Given the Warner Bros connection, it has to happen.

LEGO: The Piece of Resistance is set to hit theaters on February 28th, 2014.
