In the lead up for the Summer 2013 Guillermo Del Toro Mechs vs. Monsters film Pacific Rim, thus far, all we’ve been able to see is a number of the human cast members in their very fancy, very detailed pilot suits.

It’s understandable, however, as Warner Bros was clearly saving the money shot for the first poster for the film (above).

This is our first look at one of the Jaegers, the clearly giant sized robots which our heroes will be piloting to save the world from distraction a’la kaiju monsters.  To show the scale of the suits, that’s actors Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba on the shoulder there. And to think, that’s only a fraction of the full robot, and we haven’t even seen the monsters yet!

With a director as dedicated to eye bleeding visuals as Del Toro behind the camera, I have little doubt that this film won’t deliver the goods to those of us who have been wanting a full scale Hollywood blockbuster surrounding the world of mechs. Now let’s just hope that in addition to giving out these posters, someone shows off footage of this movie!

If you missed it, here’s the synopsis for the flick.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.  To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.  But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.  On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past.  Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Pacific Rim hits theaters on July 12th, 2013.
