While it’s probably a given that The Expendables 2 will be, like its predecessor, a far too slick looking action movie that doesn’t quite deliver on its promise of being a culmination of every action hero ever, it’s good to know that whoever is in charge of marketing knows what they’re doing.

The film will be promoted heavily at SDCC 2012 this weekend, and in turn, Lionsgate Entertainment has commissioned a new poster to be given away for the movie.  As you can see, it has a real grindhouse feel, something dark and gritty which should be emblazoned on a beat-up VHS box.  Instead, it’ll just be on the posters, and a limited run of 250 cast-signed canvas prints.

Unfortunately, I doubt the final film will have that aesthetic, but my brain wanders and really loves the idea of Stallone, Statham, Schwarzenegger, Willis, Van Damme and the gang in a gritty, low budget, gore filled action movie.  Why can’t the crummy action movie of my dreams be reality? MAKE IT SO HOLLYWOOD.

The Expendables 2 hits theaters on August 17th, 2012.
