In a news bit revealed exclusively to USA Today (seriously, what is it with the real news sources breaking all of the nerd news lately?), Activision has revealed that a very special artist will be composing the theme song for this holiday’s big release of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and that artist is Trent Reznor.

The Nine Inch Nails frontman and Oscar-winning theatrical composer is no newbie to the world of writing music for games, having composed original music for the mid 90’s FPS favorite Quake.

Sayeth Reznor on getting the Call of Duty gig:

I have always looked to that franchise as the cutting edge of what seemingly unlimited budgets and full-on not cutting any corners can do in the current day and age.
Clearly, no expense is being spared when a flipping OSCAR WINNER is composing video game theme songs these days.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II hits shelves on November 13th, 2012. Reznor is apparently about to release a new album from his project How to Destroy Angels, with wife Mariqueen Maandiq.
