One of the most buzzed about things from SDCC 2012 was the surprise premiere of a trailer for Godzilla, the forthcoming US remake of the classic Japanese monster movie.

Helmed by Monsters director Gareth Edwards, the description of the trailer hints towards a more realistic version of the King of Kaiju, and earlier this morning on Twitter, two images uploaded to Imgur have made their rounds, claiming to be concept art from the film.

I cannot confirm the validity of either image, but as you can see, the look is definitely closer to the classic Toho look as opposed to the 1998 crapfest, but with a much harsher edge.

Is it real? Will someone just upload the damn SDCC teaser? Stay tuned.

Godzilla is set to destroy Tokyo again in 2014.

UPDATE: Based on word from Luke Y. Thompson at Nerdist News (who saw the trailer first-hand), “His mouth was more beak-like in the teaser, but it’s close.“  So one can summarize that if this art isn’t official, it’s certainly from someone in the know.
