Sometimes, as amazing as the movies we get each year, there’s nothing more awe-inspiring or excitement inducing as a look at what could have been.

Late last week, Sandman creator Neil Gaiman opened the floodgates and broke a lot of nerd hearts, as he unleashed to the web images of his pitch to Warner Bros. for a full fledged Sandman motion picture.

Beautifully illustrated by Jill Thompson, these images are nothing if just a taste of what could have been one of the most brilliant, surreal and astonishing comic to film adaptations ever made.  I’ve included a comprehensive gallery below, but should you like to purchase any of these images, they are currently for sale at Cadence of Comic Art.
