In the latest of moves which proves that Hollywood studios are reverting closer to closer to being the proverbial oroboros, Universal Studios has green lit another take on it’s classic horror series, The Mummy.

Having first hit the silver screen over 5 films between 1933 and 1955, and more recently as a Brendan Fraser led trilogy over the years 1999 and 2008, The Mummy will again be hitting the silver screen in Summer 2014.

Produced by Transformers screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, with a script from Jon Spaihts (Prometheus), it was announced today that the movie will be directed by Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard, Total Recall (2012)).

Yeah. I can already tell your expectations are high.   The latest version is said to be darker and grittier (aren’t they all?), and look to emphasize the scarier elements of the Mummy character, as opposed to repeating the wonderful Indiana Jones feel of the Fraser run.

Here’s hoping it turns out better than it sounds.
