As a young boy growing up in the late 80s and early 90s, one of the most lasting memories for me was that of my first experience with Hollywood blockbusters.

Every summer, there seemed to be one movie which was designed to rule the Summer. Now, of course, I realize there are many, but in 1989 with Tim Burton’s Batman, I was drawn in completely.  The next summer, 1990, I was enraptured by the possibilites of Dick Tracy.

Growing up a comic fan, my parents nurtured this by getting me the collections of the daily strip, and I even remember having a figure or two from the movie toy line.  However - I don’t really recall the movie all that well.  For years, it’s been tied up in legal wrangling, and this resulted in the DVD being out of print for ages.

But, it all changes on December 11th, as Disney is finally releasing the movie on blu-ray.

What I do remember of the film was its intense technicolor palette, and I can’t help but feel like it will shine on HDTV.

The question is - will it hold up well? Or will it wind up being one of those things better left in my childhood?
