Craig Thompson, author of the amazing graphic novels Blankets and Habibi could easily retire now as one of the all-time greats of the medium. But of course, he’s back hard at work on a new book.

He posted the above teaser to his blog earlier this month, and now, thanks to Publisher’s Weekly, we have an idea of what the next project holds for Thompson.

Titled Space Dumplins, the book is a full-color all-ages graphic novel to be published by Scholastic. The story is said to be about “a little girl and her misfit friends who set out to rescue her father from the belly of a planet-eating space whale.“  I assume the character in the preview art (named Violet) is the lead for the book.

Space Dumplins has no announced release date at this time.
