In just over a week, 9 minutes of the long awaited Star Trek reboot sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness will be screened alongside IMAX showings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

So, of course, this means its time to start revealing even more about the top-secret JJ Abrams directed film, and it kicked off today with the release of the first poster (above) and the official synopsis.

The poster certainly has a Dark Knight Rises feel, and gives an ominous tone to the film. Interesting look for Kirk, too, rocking a sweet leather trenchcoat. EDIT: That’s not Kirk! That’s Cumberbatch! And yes, that’s London you see there.

We still don’t know who the villain is, besides someone being played by Benedict Cumberbatch (of Sherlock fame), but perhaps the synopsis will tell us something.

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes "Star Trek Into Darkness."

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

What? No idea still? DAMN YOU ABRAMS!

Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters May 17th, 2013.
