As the can’t stop/won’t stop world of Angry Birds continues on into its third year, the Swedish developer behind the pig murder simulator has announced officially that the nuanced tale of birds being flung into wooden and stone based structures will be transitioning from every game console ever created to the silver screen.

To be developed by Despicable Me producer John Cohen and former Chairman of Marvel Studios David Maisel, Angry Birds' film interpretation is looking to hit theaters in Summer 2016.

What makes the project interesting is that they will be looking to fund the film outside of the studio system, to retain full control over the final project.

I suppose this then means we’ll also be seeing Angry Birds: The Movie: The Game sometime in 2016.  Fingers are crossed for a crossover with the forthcoming Star Wars sequels.
