Filmmaker Zack Snyder has one of the most geek friendly resumes possible, and it looks like he intends to continue, as after Man of Steel completes, he is rumored to be moving to a new Star Wars film.

The project, reported today by Vulture, is said to be a part of the extended Star Wars theatrical universe, and is not part of the forthcoming Episode VII, VIII, IX Trilogy. It was spoken at the time of the Disney/Lucasfilm merger that Disney was looking to grow the Star Wars universe to be similar to the Marvel Theatrical Universe, and this will be the first project.

Snyder’s film is said to be a Jedi filled version of Seven Samurai, with Jedi’s replacing the Samurai, and the swords instead being lightsabers. I’m sure there’s more to the plot than that, but considering the original Star Wars was based on The Hidden Fortress, this is the perfect way to go.

Considering thus far Zack has revisited Dawn of the Dead, adapted 300, faced down the unfilmable Watchmen and is now in charge of Superman, he may just be the perfect candidate for a new Star Wars film - let’s just hope we don’t have another Sucker Punch on our hands.

And no, the above art is NOT from the film - it’s by talented artist Clinton Felker, who created an entire series of hybrid Star Wars/Samurai art.

EDIT - 7:47pm EST - Zack Snyder’s reps have officially denied the report. Oh well.
