The ever expanding cast of the sequel to the (mostly) well-received Spider-Man reboot looks to have gained its strangest addition yet - noted character actor Paul Giamatti as The Rhino.

In a scoop exclusive to The Hollywood Reporter, word is that Giamatti is very close to joining the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as the classic Spider-Man villain, who has yet to see action on the silver screen.

Giamatti, best known for quirky acting work in roles such as Sideways, is no stranger to comic book adaptations, having appeared in American Splendor, but even as a HUGE supporter of his work (Win Win is a terribly underrated film), I never thought I’d see him in a project on the scale of this one. That said, Giamatti is said to be quite a fan of the Rhino character from childhood, so it’s cool to see him (possibly) make a dream come true.

He would join a number of new actors coming aboard the film, including Jamie Foxx as Electro, Chronicle’s Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn and Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, joining the returning Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Emma Stone as the ill-fated Gwen Stacy.

Also joining the cast, sayeth reporter Borys Kit, is actress Felicity Jones (Like Crazy), for a yet to be announced role.
