For long time comics fans, this is going to serve as one of the strangest stories ever.

Way way back in 1993, beloved author and creator Neil Gaiman co-wrote a story in Image Comics’ Spawn #9 with Todd McFarlane, featuring a character named Angela, an angelic bounty hunter.

In 2002, the character was the cause of a legal dispute between McFarlane and Gaiman, determining once and for all that Gaiman co-owned the legal rights to the character.

And now, in 2013…Angela is making her way to the Marvel Comics Universe. Really.

In a reveal exclusive to The New York Times, Marvel Comics has confirmed that Angela will be appearing in a “post-credits scene” at the end of the last issue of their current Age of Ultron event, which depicts a dystopian future where the robotic villain Ultron has, and continues to, defeat the heroes of the Marvel U.

Angela will then next appear within the pages of Guardians of the Galaxy #5, which will be co-written by Brian Michael Bendis and Neil Gaiman.

The goal here? Not really sure - but for long-term fans of comics, this is interesting both for the return of Gaiman to comics (who is also returning to the pages of Sandman this year), and the surreal integration of a notable Image Comics character into the Marvel Comics universe.
