Rumor has had it lately that Marvel Comics, seeing the success of DC Comics’ Earth One line, would be attempting to create an original graphic novel line.  The goal being that fans who just saw the movies would be able to pick these books up, get a great story without any major continuity ties, and have that story provided by A-List talent.

While Marvel attempted a similar program with the Season One graphic novel program, the talent level for this first release blows the entire Season One project out of the water.

Working together to create the first book, Avengers: Endless Wartime will be writer Warren Ellis (Transmetropolitan) and artist Mike McCone (Exiles)

Here’s the full synopsis for the release:

An abomination, long thought buried, has resurfaced in a war-torn land. But now it wears an American flag. Avengers: Endless Wartime is bookended by an introduction from Marvel’s The Avengers star Clark Gregg (better known as “Agent Phil Coulson”) and an afterword from the legendary Stan Lee, co-creator of this blockbuster super hero team.
