In what must seem like an inevitability, with the end of the Clone Wars cartoon and cuts to ILM, Disney announced yesterday that they will be closing the once-great George Lucas owned game development company LucasArts.

While mostly known for a wide variety of Star Wars and Indiana Jones games (The Force Unleashed was a popular game for them in recent years), hardcore gamers will always remember them for being the home of amazing adventure titles, such as Maniac Mansion, Full Throttle and the classic Monkey Island series.

Development on Star Wars games will now be outsourced to different companies as LucasArts moves to a licensing model.

While they were never as great as they were in the late 80’s and early 90’s, it’s a shame to see them go. We at Blast-O-Rama hope the bright minds remaining at LucasArts continue to produce great games in the future.

Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert wrote a fantastic farewell to the company here.
