While we in the states have known this cartoon under many different titles, including Battle of the Planets, G-Force and Eagle Riders, in Japan, they know this team as one thing and one thing only…

SCIENCE NINJA TEAM GATCHAMAN!

Gatchaman is considered a classic in Japan, having first aired over forty years ago. The tale of a 5 member teenage superhero team is one which we’re all familiar with world wide, and arguably, was done best with Gatchman, and this summer it’s going to be realized with a super slick, live action film.  Here’s the first, very brief teaser trailer.

Based off the images released, the costumes have equal parts Batman Begins and Metal Gear Solid going for them. But man do those helmets look COOL!

No word yet on a US release, but if you’re in Glorious Nippon, Gatchaman hits theaters on August 24th.
