The cast of James Gunn’s outer space adventure Guardians of the Galaxy continues to be unique, with an addition that Walking Dead fans should be excited for.

Joining this Marvel Studios Phase 2 installment is Michael Rooker, known most recently as Merle Dixon on the super-popular AMC show - even though he’ll always be Mr. Svenning in my heart.

Alongside the already cast Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana, he will star as Yondu, a character who even I, as a big Marvel Comics fan couldn’t tell you ANYTHING about.

This marks a continued working relationship between Gunn and Rooker, as Rooker appeared in both Slither and Super.

Guardians of the Galaxy traverses the cosmos on August 1st, 2014.
