For the past few weeks, rumors have been flying about which director would next take on the James Bond franchise.  Would it be Batman legend Christopher Nolan? The new style of Nicolas Winding Refn? Or would it be some Bond Pi with Ang Lee?

Turns out, it will be…none of them! According to Deadline.com, talks between Sony, Bond producers EON and Skyfall director Sam Mendes are looking very serious, to the point where Sony is willing to wait for Mendes to finish his theater commitments to get the ball rolling on the 24th 007 adventure.

This would be a great idea, not just financially (as Mendes' first go generated $1 billion in box office), but critically, as Skyfall is one of the most well regarded installments of the James Bond franchise.  If that wasn’t enough reason for excitement, writer John Logan, who also penned Skyfall is returning for this and the 25th Bond film.  Perhaps we can get a mini Daniel Craig/Sam Mendes/John Logan trilogy within the series?

Sony, set your sights on success - make this happen.
