The push towards digital comics continues to be a big concern for both Marvel and DC. Marvel announced a number of digital initiatives earlier this year at SXSW, but it appears that DC Comics is getting in the game as well with DC2 - presenting two new digital comics formats for the Batman publisher.

The first, called simply, DC2 will premiere alongside Batman ‘66, the long-waited comics version of the 60’s TV series, written by Jeff Parker with art from Jonathan Case and covers from Mike Allred. The DC2 comics will work somewhat similar to Marvel Infinite comics, where with each swipe of a “page” art and sound effects will zoom in, zoom out, and appear randomly. It’s somewhat gimmicky, but can be rather effective storytelling when done correctly.

The second is a more intriguing move - called DC2 Multiverse, this format will allow for a choose-your-own-adventure style read, letting readers jump between options while reading the comic, ending in different results. This will premiere with Batman: Arkham Origins, based on this Fall’s latest Batman video game.

Release dates for these new titles are not yet available.
