Say what you will about GI Joe: Retaliation, but it certainly fared far better than the first film.  With a worldwide gross so far of $365 Million, about $60 million more than the first film, it’s clear that the Dwayne Johnson led sequel was received better by audiences - even with the nearly year long delay to convert the film to 3D.

In turn, it should be no surprise that Paramount Pictures has signed director Jon M. Chu to come back for GI Joe 3.

While there is no release date at this time, bringing back Chu is a smart move from Paramount, and it’ll be nice to see how the Joe/Cobra war continues into a third installment.  Who would have thought that the success of this franchise would be built around a guy who’s prior films were part of the Step Up franchise and the Justin Bieber documentary, Never Say Never?

GI Joe: Retaliation hits blu-ray on July 30th.
