With the announcement of third and fourth films in the Amazing Spider-Man series, plus the cavalcade of villains set to appear, if not simply to cameo, within The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it should come as no surprise that there are some changes being made to the second film to fit the ever-growing saga.

What is a surprise however is that Mary Jane Watson, set to be played by Shailene Woodley, is completely cut out of the film now.

Sayeth Shailene to Entertainment Weekly:

Of course I'm bummed. But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason...Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film.
This is kind of a bummer, but understandable if they want to make Peter's story extend over four movies now, instead of just two.  Lets hope this just means that she's being bumped to a third, not completely replaced as MJ.

EDIT: Update -  from The Hollywood Reporter, looks like Woodley is being completely replaced.
