One of the few original film successes over the summer, Lionsgate’s Now You See Me drew in audiences with its unique magician heist concept, combined with a solid, mid-range cast.

I haven’t seen the film yet myself, but all indications were that it lived up to its hype, a fun, breezy mixture of Ocean’s 11 antics with some magic to go alongside it.

So, now that the risk of making an original film in today’s environment actually paid off ($275 Million Worldwide on a budget of $75 Million), what is Lionsgate to do? Produce more unique, interesting original films?

Of course not! Get ready for Now You See Me 2 in Summer 2014.

Thus far, none of the original cast (including Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher and Mark Ruffalo), nor the director Louis Leterrier are signed. And there isn’t a script. But we’ll see a sequel in two years.

Good luck with that, guys.

Meanwhile, for those of us like myself, who haven’t seen Now You See Me yet, the film is due to hit home video on September 3rd.
