With events like New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con drawing as many as 250,000 people, and even smaller conventions drawing dozens of thousands of rabid fans, you had to know that it wouldn’t be long before a company like Marvel got their paws into the live event game, right?

Get ready - The Marvel Experience is coming in 2014.

A joint venture of Marvel and Hero Ventures, a Los Angeles based entertainment company, The Marvel Experience is intended to feel like equal parts convention and theme park, with the live event featuring original 3D animated features, digitally projected animations, motion comics, holograms, and of course merchandising.  The linchpin of the event, however, is a 4D motion ride, set in the center of the event.

For those unaware, a 4D motion ride is not too dissimilar to the old Back to the Future ride at Universal Studios - through a mixture of moving chairs, 3D glasses and video projection, you feel as if you’re in the moment.  The 4th dimension is an added mixture of wind, smoke, water and even smell effects. Here’s hoping it’s not a ripe day for The Hulk.

The Marvel Experience is set to travel to 20-24 US cities in 2014, with dates and locations announced soon. If it’s successful, look for a second US and an international trip to follow.
