Somewhere, the production of the new HBO series True Detective fell completely beneath my radar.

Perhaps that’s a good thing, as the first teaser hit HBO’s YouTube page today, and it has me completely within its trance.

Starring the duo of Woody Harrelson (Zombieland) and the man on a mission to remind us how good an actor he is, Matthew McConaughey (Mud), I can’t pull together too much from this teaser, but I am definitely in for this series.

Darkness, religion, sex, depression, family…and a tale that seems to span a number of years.

It’s saying a lot, but this is the first time in a while that I’ve seen a project that reminded me of David Fincher’s Zodiac. This will be a show to look out for when it premieres in January 2014.
