Batten down the hatches and prep your wallet, nerds!

This week’s blu-ray release list is a big one, as we officially kick off the holiday shopping season, which means high profile releases, amazing gift sets, and all sorts of stuff sure to separate you from your hard earned cash.

The biggest release today is a much long-awaited one, so I won’t keep you waiting any longer, these are the releases worth paying attention to today…

• Peter Jackson's first installment of his Hobbit adaptation, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey gets released in an extended edition today. Of course, it's available in three formats - 2D, 3D, and a massive boxed set including a statue of Bilbo and Gollum.
• TV fans get the sixth, moody season of Mad Men.
• Those who love crappy action movies? Here's one of the cheesiest of the year - White House Down.
• Are you, or is your significant other, a Twi-hard? Better get them the Twilight Forever box set, or you'll be feeling as happy as Kristen Stewart looks.
• Last, but far from least, if you've got the dough - I highly recommend the Doctor Who Blu-Ray boxed set, packing together Seasons 1-7 of the reboot (the first time on Blu for 1-4) plus an amazing sonic screwdriver remote.
