Jesse-Eisenberg-in-The-Social-Network

Warner Bros broke the internet briefly on Friday with their latest casting announcements for Zach Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel, currently known as Batman vs. Superman.

After shocking the world last August with the addition of Ben Affleck as Batman, WB followed up months of rumors and anticipation with the announcement of two new cast members.

In a move that makes sense, and feels far more perfect than ever envisioned, veteran actor Jeremy Irons will join the cast as the new interpretation of Alfred, Batman’s trusted right hand man and butler.

But in a shocking announcement, the new Lex Luthor was revealed as Jesse Eisenberg, best known for his appearances in The Social Network and Zombieland.

It’s certainly a new take on the classic Superman arch nemesis, but the longer I’ve lived with the announcement, the more I’ve enjoyed it. It’s only appropriate that a modern day Lex would be less an icon of industry, but instead a figurehead of a tech conglomerate, such as Google, or yes, even Facebook.

Thus far, the Snyder-helmed DC Universe launchpad has juked left when I expected them to go right, and at the very least, on paper, it’s making for the most unique superhero film yet.  Here’s hoping it works out for the better in Summer 2016.
