Its sort of a running gag these days that the only reason why Mark Millar is still in comics is to create new properties to be optioned as films.

In his defense, thus far, they’ve been pretty successful. Wanted, Kick-Ass 1 & 2, and a forthcoming Nemesis movie all indicate that what he touches - regardless of the comic’s quality - turns into something Hollywood wants to produce.

The latest book-to-screen transition for Millarworld is the Millar/Dave Gibbons comic The Secret Service, or as it’s now titled for the film -  Kingsman: The Secret Service.

The setup isn’t that different from Wanted - particularly the film version, which I felt was far more tolerable than the comic - you have a young guy, a secret organization, fate - except this time, the setup is FAR more British. I mean, it’s even got Colin Firth with a weaponized umbrella.

The movie looks fun, if a bit dim, but I’m guessing there had to be something serious to the property, if it caused Matthew Vaughn to direct this instead of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Kingsman: The Secret Service hits theaters October 24.
